Cosmetologist Training for Look Good...Feel Better on Aug. 29th
- on August 11, 2011
Cosmetologists in northeast Kansas are invited to attend a free Look Good…Feel Better® training and recertification at the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka. The training will take place on Monday, Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This session is for any cosmetologist who is interested in becoming a volunteer Look Good…Feel Better facilitator and current facilitators who need to be recertified. The training will include an actual patient session taught by Lawrence cosmetologist Jim Grimes, owner of Headmasters Salon.
Trained facilitators help patients enhance their appearance using a 12-step program developed especially for women undergoing radiation and chemotherapy. They demonstrate how women can use makeup, wigs, and other accessories to look like themselves again — to restore their self-image, confidence, and sense of control.
The hands-on techniques demonstrated at Look Good...Feel Better sessions, in conjunction with complimentary cosmetics and skin care products provided by the program, show women that they can look good again and, more importantly, allow them to perform their own makeovers at home. They discover that good makeup application and a wig or turban can recreate their former appearance — or create an entirely new one. The program can also give a woman with cancer and her family a much-needed morale boost during a difficult period.
There is no charge for the training and lunch will be provided. Call Jennifer Taylor at the American Cancer Society, (800) 359-1025, for more information and to register.
Look Good…Feel Better is a program of the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association in partnership with the American Cancer Society and National Cosmetology Association. For information about cancer 24 hours a day, seven days a week, call 800-ACS-2345 or visit cancer.org.
