Giving blood: It's a snap

I've signed up for the Red Cross' regular blood drive. It's next Thursday, Sept. 8, at First Christian Church at 10th and Kentucky streets.

Hope to see you there! Wellcommons reporter Karrey Britt is working on a story about how the blood supply right now is low, low, low, so I feel it's especially important to give. Just click here and type in your zip code to set up an appointment. It's easy.

The Red Cross folks are great and get you through the process quickly. And those volunteers are so helpful — and they come up with the best food!

What are the hours of the blood drive?

Whoops, if I would have just followed the link I would have seen it. I'm putting it on my calendar, hopefully my schedule that day will let me slip into Lawrence to donate. Luckily, I'm a fast giver and the whole process (minus the line if there is one) usually takes me less than 45 minutes.

No problem, Laura! I should have included that. It's from 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I agree with Caroline. Giving blood is an easy and FREE way to really make a difference in someone's life. I haven't donated in months because of my hip replacement surgery ... need to find out if it's OK to donate. It's something I forgot to ask my doctor about.

Since I don't know what my schedule will look like next week and I knew I had some wiggle room this afternoon, I went ahead and went to the drive at Haskell. I've already been and donated (that includes my 15 min. drive to Lawrence!), it's that easy! There was a nice girl on the table next to me giving for the first time, it was nice to talk to her about the process and how much help her blood will be for someone.
