Lawrence Journal-World Chief Photographer Mike Yoder and his friends — Doug and Shirley Hitt and Tom Mersmann — are on a weeklong bicycle trip in the region. They started on Sunday.
Here’s Mike’s report about today’s (June 29) ride:
It was the toughest day yet because of strong headwinds from the south, lots of long and often steep uphills, plus temperatures into the 90s.
We rode 63 miles from Marysville to Tuttle Creek State Park north of Manhattan. We plan on dining at The Little Grill near our rental cabin in the park.
For those cyclists interested in what we are riding, we have a 2003 Waterford Road Sport Extended, two Trek Atwood Eco’s and my 2000 Cannondale F-900 mountain bike with road tires.
Tomorrow morning, we plan to eat breakfast in Aggieville and make our overnight in Council Grove.
Mike's adventures:
• Getting geared up. Bicycling tour on 3 wheels.
• Day 1. Trip to Atchison without difficulties.
• Day 2 and 3. Trip to Falls City, Neb., and then Marysville, Kan.
