2 p.m. — Success! Our fan-and-food drive is over. We collected about three carts of food, 23 fans, and $23! Thanks to all of those who participated. The drive continues through the month. For more information, check out our Cans & Fans group page on WellCommons. Also, I will be working on a "Day in the Life of The Salvation Army" story on Monday. Look for the story next weekend, and learn much more about where your donations go.

1:50 p.m. — We are filling up our third cart!

1:35 p.m. — Awesome! One woman just donated 18 cans, cereal, mac and cheese, juice, huge can of coffee, peanut butter, and laundry soap. She's a hometown hero!

1 p.m. — Yes! We collected 19 fans for The Salvation Army. On days like this, those could be life-saving for those in need. Shoppers at Checkers have donated about two carts of food! We are here until 2 p.m. Come by! We also have collected $12 and will turn that into food donations as well.

Noon — Twelve fans have been donated at Westlake, and 12 have been donated at the Lawrence Journal-World. We have a cart and half of food! We are here until 2 p.m. Come stop by! We are handing out WellCommons balloons!

11:15 a.m. — Shoppers are helping to fill our first cart. We are hoping it's full in 30 minutes. Can we do it? One shopper donated two bags of food! Who can top that?

11 a.m. — I am at Checkers Food, 23rd and Louisiana streets, until 2 p.m. today along with others from the WellCommons team. We are accepting food donations for The Salvation Army. If you make a donation, you get a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Checkers.

Across the street, at Westlake Ace Hardware, they are cooking up hot dogs and giving out soda until 1 p.m. They are hoping people donate fans to The Salvation Army. One 20-inch box fan costs $12.99. If you donate a fan, you get a free KUSports.com sports bottle.

Be a hometown hero and help those who are less fortunate!
