Happiness Hero Fills Hearts With Joy

Every community has them. Whether it is the volunteer who comes in without fail, or a staff person who always has a smile, or a family member who donates time to the community, heroes are among us each and every day. During the month of September, Bridge Haven is recognizing “Happiness Heroes.” These are individuals who have made a difference in the lives of others. By recognizing heroes in little, small ways, we hope to make a huge impact by saying “thank you” to those who give so much!

For nearly 6 years, Jenny Wilk's Hillcrest Elementary School class has visited the elderly residents who live at Bridge Haven, a memory care home located just one block from the school. When the children visit they might sing, perform skits, share artwork, or read clever stories or poetry. Regardless of the activity, the students love to show off what they’ve learned in class. The children put smiles on resident faces, and fill their friend’s hearts with joy.

Wilk says she continues the field trips to Bridge Haven because “it connects our students to people that have lived amazing lives. They learn about caring for others while working on their presentation skills. My students leave Bridge Haven proud of themselves, excited to return, and appreciating the relationship they develop over the years with the residents. It’s just a beautiful thing to see!”

None of this would be possible without Wilk’s continued commitment to make the visits a reality for her students and the residents at Bridge Haven. From the bottom of our hearts, Bridge Haven thanks Jenny Wilk for spreading happiness to others. Please join us in saying, “You’re the best!”
