VNA to Host Hospice Volunteer Training Sessions

In the new year, many make resolutions. Some resolve to work out more or eat better, while others resolve to take up a hobby or do something good for others. Visiting Nurses is providing an opportunity for those who wish to help someone in a big way this new year.

Visiting Nurses Hospice Volunteer program is looking for new volunteers who are interested in working with Hospice patients. Hospice volunteers at VNA serve many purposes. Visiting Nurses offers volunteer services for just about any talent, from providing massages or hair cuts for patients to give them a little boost, or even just sitting down and playing a game with a patient or providing a friend for conversation.

For those who are interested in the possibility of volunteering, but who have questions about the program and their involvement in it, Visiting Nurses is hosting Volunteer Training Sessions on Friday, January 31st, and again on Saturday, February 1st.

In these sessions, VNA representatives will discuss issues such as hands-on physical care, spiritual and emotional care, the dying process and dementia and specials needs associated with it. There will also be time for potential volunteers to ask questions and get answers.

To inquire about volunteer services or training, please contact Sarah Rooney, Volunteer Coordinator at Visiting Nurses at sarahro@kansasvna.org, or at (785) 843-3738.
