Art meets produce at Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market this Thursday, May 12, as vendors display their wares alongside KU Art student’s larger than life vegetable sculptures. The sculptures, which were on display at Hobbs Taylor Lofts during last month’s Final Fridays show, will be installed at the center of Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market this week by Professor Matthew Burke and some of his students.
Last week art met function as Mellowfields Urban Farm transported their produce to market on a beautiful blue Farnsworth original cargo bike. The bike was created for Mellowfields by Eric Fransworth as an environmentally friendly means of delivering the farm’s bounty of produce to local markets.
Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market also includes an intriguing selection of Bob Gent Glassworks’ knobs and garden globes. Bob is a weekly vendor displaying his art alongside food stuffs from the New Boston Coop; with a selection of fresh neighborhood eggs on the side.
Performing art is a mainstay at Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market. Despite rainstorms last week, market goers were entertained by the acoustical bravado of renowned musicians Bill Crahan and Scott Tichenor. This week’s market goers can look forward to some foot stomping fiddling by Lauralyn Bodle.
An array of seasonal produce will be offered by weekly market vendors including Stony Ridge Farm, Martin Farm, and Avery’s Produce. MAD Farm, Nuestra Hortiliza and Brownfield Blue+Green, will also offer vegetable starts and other bedding plants alongside their produce selection. Vinland Valley Nursery and Shopen Blueberries provide a selection of live goods for your yard. Upward Spiral Bake Goods, Backdoor Bakery, S & S Artisanal Grocery and Pink Box Bakery offer a delectable selection of goodies and gluten free bake goods are available from Breadth.
Last week’s market started out with an hour long thunder storm, but Bill Crahan and Scott Tichenor played throughout the storm, entertaining vendors and market goers alike. Mr. Bacon BBQ served up mountainous heaps of delicious pork and chicken barbeque to shoppers and their Pig Pie was definitely one of the highlights of the day.
Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market is located in the back parking lot of Cottin’s Hardware & Rental at 1832 Massachusetts Street. Mark your calendars for Thursdays and come join the fun from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm, at Cottin’s Hardware Farmers Market, where good food, great produce, wonderful music and art abound!
