Chocolate Goodies needed for Lawrence Community Shelter event

The Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS) will hold its 11th Annual “Chocolate and Tea at Three” fundraiser on Sunday, November 13 at the Marriott Springhill Suites (1 Riverfront Plaza). All donations support LCS programs for employment, housing, and intervention, as well as meeting the basic shelter needs of families and people experiencing homelessness. (please note - LCS has sheltered over a dozen children every night for most nights this fall)

We encourage you join us for the event and to become an active partner with LCS to continue to offer programs to homeless Lawrence citizens on the path to a positive future. LCS Board President John Tacha is “encouraged by the increase in awareness of the issue of homelessness in our community and support for the Lawrence Community Shelter.”

“Chocolate and Tea at Three” will feature an exotic, delicious assortment of chocolate desserts with gourmet coffees and teas donated by local restaurants and outstanding individual bakers. The recipient of the Huggins Volunteer of the Year Award will be recognized for service at LCS.

*THE CHOCOLATE CONTEST* We will also have a contest featuring chocolate creations (made in advance) during the event. The Chocolate contest is open to anyone and there is no cost to enter. Entrants must provide 24 cupcakes (or cupcake-sized individual portions). The entry doesn’t have to be cake. It could be 24 individual-sized cheesecakes, or truffles, etc. The entry should include chocolate in some way; however it doesn’t necessarily have to be the most significant feature. Judging is on a 5 point scale on flavor, originality, appearance, moistness, and texture. Judging will occur during the first half of the event and the winner will be announced during the auction.

Chocolate goodies for the event (as well as chocolate contest entries) should be delivered to the Marriott on Sunday morning between 9 am to noon.

Please email or call Anne at 785-550-4110 to indicate you will be participating in the contest or preparing an item for the buffet or if you have any questions.
