Mark Brooks has worked for Lawrence Habitat for over a decade. by Lindsey Slater

For those of you who haven’t heard, Mark Brooks, our longtime construction manager, is officially retired. Mark has put a lot of sweat into building Lawrence Habitat homes and leading groups of volunteers for more than a decade. Mark was won numerous awards for his great dedication to Habitat’s mission, including the Service to Mankind Award from the Lawrence Sertoma Club in 2008. Mark will be greatly missed by Habitat staff and volunteers alike.

Make sure to join us on January 13, 2013, for a retirement party for Mark at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, from 4-6 p.m. While the event is an open house, there will be a short program starting at 5p.m. Please join us for light refreshments and one last chance to tell Mark how much you’ll miss him.

If you can’t make it, but would like to send Mark a note, leave a comment below or email me at slater@lawrencehabitat.org. I will compile notes into a booklet for Mark and place them on the walls of the church for all to see your favorite memory about our lauded construction manager.

Board member Dave Baldwin is spearheading a special fund in Mark’s name. If you’d like, you can designate donations to be given on behalf of Mark. The funds will go toward the next house and Mark’s name will appear on the sign at the build site. You can donate to Lawrence Habitat here. Please make sure to let us know it’s for Mark by calling 832-0777.
