Employees at the Community Health Facility had a chance to taste menu items from LiveWell EatWell Restaurants. From yogurt and fruit to Lentils & Cucumber salad everything tasted great. If you are ready for your own taste test we would recommend the following choices from the restaurants who participated.
- Mariscos- Turkey Monterrey Sandwich (it still tastes great without the bacon) and Tossed greens with a raspberry dressing.
- The Merc Deli-Lentils & Cucumbers with Balsamic Reduction
- Sandbar Subs at Zarco 66- Pirate's Steak or Turkey Catamaran whole wheat wraps and Power Lunch Fruit Yogurt with real fruit and granola.

What a great idea -- lunch in, feasting on healthy food from local restaurants. It would be especially welcome on a rainy day like this.

It is good to know the calories, fat and satured fat in a menu item, but I think it is difficut to call an item healthy without knowing the amount of sodium. I have found that many restaurants menu items have very high amounts of sodium. Is it possible for you to include the amount of sodium in future articles?

The LiveWell EatWell criteria are based on the Healthy Kansas restaurant program that did not include evaluating sodium content. Most chain restaurants include sodium content of menu items on their websites. I do not believe that many locally owned restaurants have had the sodium content of their dishes analyzed. I would ask at your favorite restaurant if they have information on sodium. Asking is important because it lets the owner/manager know you are interested in lower sodium options. I look at LiveWell EatWell as a step in the process of having healthier options available at restaurants but there is still more to do including having lower sodium options.
