The Impromptu Cafe is in a quiet spot on the 3rd floor of the KU Union for lunch when classes are in session. It was a great place to retreat on a recent 100 degree day. The cafe is small and the menu includes standards and unique combinations of ingredients. I was intrigued by the Roasted Chicken with Kansas wheat berry rice pilaf and Seared Salmon.
Kim Nixon, the restaurant manager, takes particular pride in customer service. All menu items are made from scratch. Kim will often check with the kitchen to find out how an item is prepared and modify items for customers with special requests. Also you can't beat the prices, small plates starting at $2.75 to entrees for $8.

The hours are 11-2pm when classes are in session. They are taking a break until August 12th.

I loooove Impromptu! I try to eat there whenever I go to the Union. It is the best kept secret on the Hill. Kim and Krew are top notch! I only wish they did private catering.

Impromptu is the shizz. Kim is great, and always makes sure you're taken care of very well.

Kim has a long standing background in Lawrence restaurants and always makes customer service a priority. I wish they had longer hours so more people could experience her cafe. Best of luck Kim.
