Sometimes trying to be a role model is a pain in the neck.
It is Bike to Work Day. As a person who works on community wellness, I was determined to show that it can be done.
I made it nice and dry to my 9:00 meeting at the Merc. Midway through the meeting, we heard that boom of thunder. I thought to myself, "Oh no!"
I grabbed some paper towels from the ladies room and wiped off my bike seat, which turned out to be an exercise in futility. If you have ever driven through puddles on a bike with no fenders, you know that a wet backside is inevitable.
The ride from the Merc to my office at 9th and Mass. was wet. I thought about turning my bike toward home, changing clothes, and driving.
But noooo, I had to prove to myself that I could tough it out.
I arrived safely, and feel a little proud that I stuck it out.
Only one small catch. You know the feeling of wearing soaking wet jeans? Yea.
I'm taking suggestions on how to get them dry while they stay on me. And no, we don't have a hand dryer in the rest room.

Marilyn! You're an inspiration for all of us who have dry pants today! Body heat should eventually dry your clothes. Emphasis on the eventually. ;-)

You go girl! Wonder if they make water proof jeans....

I'm thinking the "rubber pants" I used to put over my babies' cloth diapers would have at least protected my seat end...assuming I could get them in my size....

Way to go Marilyn! I rode my bike today as well, but managed to get inside before the downpour started.

Nice job Marilyn. I have no suggestions for the wet jeans problem...but I agree that it's the worst. They take forever to dry!
I live close enough that walking to work is still an option when it rains but today I had a cross town meeting so I had to drive. Normally, I'm pedaling.

Kudos to you, Marilyn!!

Keeping a spare set of clothes in the office is what I've been considering. Calling my wife to rescue me is another option, of course.

I spoke too soon, trying to follow Marilyn's lead, I biked to Free State Brewery for a lunch meeting. I hadn't yet prepared to deal with rain, which began just as the meeting ended, and I am now sitting behind my desk with damp clothes on. No, I didn't bring in that spare set of clothes yet. I did almost make a desperate purchase of a riding jacket at Sunflower before leaving downtown. They didn't have what I wanted in my size, though.
