Blue Cross Blue Shield offers $1,000 grants for school health programs and projects

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas is offering up to $1,000 in grant funding to schools for health promotion programs and projects.

The Healthy Habits for Life program aims to help Kansas youth reduce cardiovascular risk, be more physically active and develop healthy eating habits.

In 2011, twelve Douglas County area schools received funding totaling $11,730.

Here are some ideas for projects.

If you are are a parent or community volunteer interested in helping a school apply for a grant, I suggest you contact the school principal or the PTO president to get things rolling.

The application deadline is October 15, but you will want to finish your application at least two weeks earlier and submit it to school district administrators for approval. Your principal will know how to do this.
