The East Lawrence Neighborhood Association seeks volunteers Saturday, March 8, to help clean up the Kansas Riverfront Conservation area adjacent to the neighborhood. The area is a winter nesting and feeding area for Bald Eagles.
Mike Myers, project coordinator and chair of LiveWell Lawrence's Healthy Built Environment Work Group, said the purpose of the river cleanup is to bring residents together while also providing a community service. “We want folks to enjoy each other’s company and to make new acquaintances while helping to make a difference in the community.”
The cleanup will start at 8 a.m. at the Amtrak Station, 413 E. Seventh St. The neighborhood association will provide bagels and coffee. The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will provide trash bags. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and gloves. The cleanup is scheduled to end at noon.
