LiveWell Lawrence sets policy platform for 2015-16

The LiveWell Lawrence Leadership Team recently voted to adopt a policy platform for 2015-16, which includes each work group’s top priority. Priorities include:

Healthy Built Environment Work Group

Support allocation of funding for projects that complete the "Lawrence Loop" — a network of trails, streets and roadside routes that will provide complete bicycle and pedestrian access around the City of Lawrence — including support of at least one grant application in 2015.

Healthy Food For All Work Group

Promote and advocate for increased enrollment in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through efforts including dollar-for-dollar matching programs, community-wide campaigns that destigmatize food assistance and improve understanding of the benefits of SNAP participation.

Healthy Kids Work Group

By July 2016, develop one model wellness policy for dissemination that can be adopted/adapted for use in Douglas County schools, before- and after-school programs, child care homes and centers.

Tobacco-Free Living Work Group

Increase the proportion of Douglas County municipalities with tobacco-free parks policies from 0 percent (0 of 4) to 50 percent (2 of 4) by July 2016.

WorkWell Lawrence

By July 2016, support the adoption of healthy food and beverage policies in three Douglas County workplaces.

Executive Committee

By June 2016, complete a social network analysis project involving the LiveWell Lawrence Leadership Team.
