Are you a Looper? LiveWell Lawrence and partners continue to advocate for finishing a 20+ mile loop trail around Lawrence everyone could enjoy. To watch a video highlighting recent discussion about the Loop at the Lawrence City Commission and on 6 News Lawrence, click here.
In October, the City of Lawrence supported a Kansas Department of Transportation Alternative Transportation grant application involving the Loop. The $750,000 application asked for funding to complete four sections of the project, which will be 22.4 miles when complete. The four sections are: 750 linear feet from 29th Street to the Haskell Rail-Trail to the South Lawrence Trafficway Trail; 1,450 linear feet from Hobbs Park to 9 Del Lofts; 950 linear feet from Poehler Lofts to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Depot; and 800 linear feet from City Hall to Constant Park. The KDOT grant is 80/20 matching funds. If awarded, the city would be responsible for 20 percent of the cost. The LiveWell Lawrence Healthy Built Environment Work Group and other coalition members wrote letters of support for the grant application.
