Happy National Bike Month! A number of activities are planned to celebrate the month.
Represent Douglas County in the National Bike Challenge! The Challenge is a logging center for you to record the miles you ride while competing with other riders across the country. The Challenge runs through Sept. 30. Locally, the Challenge is being hosted by LiveWell Lawrence in partnership with the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department. Register at nationalbikechallenge.com.
Bike to Work Week is May 15-19, with Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 19. More info.
The Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority is encouraging resident children to ride their bikes every day in May.
“Every day they ride their bikes, whether it’s around the neighborhood, to school or a friend’s place, they get to put a tack up on our tracking board,” Early Childhood and Youth Specialist Mary Orem said. “At the end of the month, we’ll have a celebration and awards. We’re also encouraging families to bring their bikes in for tune-ups from our youth ‘Wrenching Crew,’ and 10 more adults will earn bikes when we host our second SPOKES adult commuter class and rodeo later this month.”
