I'm looking for suggestions on how to attract new people to start farming.
I often see messages about land available to lease for organic method fruit/vegetable production, and I get requests to send out such notices, but often there are no takers. I think the demand for local produce in our area is good - but how do we obtain more producers?

Maybe one piece of the puzzle is offering training. I know there are some "growing growers" programs around. Maybe we could try one in Douglas County. LiveWell Lawrence might consider helping in some way.

Marilyn - I like the idea of more farmer training. Growing Growers http://www.growinggrowers.org is a regional program that is available to Douglas County residents, but maybe a precursor to that would be helpful.
