Walk Kansas 2014 - Time is Now to Register!
- on March 7, 2014
Still wanting to get a Walk Kansas team together? Last year, Douglas County alone had 115 teams (which included 677 participants) and 82% of them were from workplaces. Because Douglas County rivals Riley County (Manhattan) for having the most teams in the state, let's push the number of participants over 1,000 this year!
Walk Kansas is a team-based program that will help you and others lead a healthier life by being more active, making better nutrition choices, and learning positive ways to deal with stress. This is how it works - form teams of six people who log minutes of physical activity and fruit/vegetable consumption, each day, and report these weekly to their team captain during the 8-week challenge - March 16 - May 10, 2014. Teams do not have to do any of their physical activity together - they just log their minutes as a team.
Walk Kansas 2014 registrations are still being accepted until 1:00 p.m. on March 21. The individual participant fee is $7.00, plus $2.00 for each additional family member living in the household. To encourage employers to support wellness, we are offering a $2.00 off discount per participant (which totals $5.00 per participant) to workplaces who pay for their employees to participate in Walk Kansas.
