Today is the last day for Medicare open enrollment.
The news might catch some seniors off guard because in years past the deadline had been at the end of December, said Criss Tomlin, who has been working with Medicare beneficiaries at Douglas County Senior Services since open enrollment began Oct. 15.
Douglas County Senior Services has been buzzing with people looking for help in choosing their Medicare plans. Anyone on Medicare should review their plan, Tomlin said, even those who are happy with it.
Changes in prescriptions and company policy can cause other plans to be cheaper.
“It’s really rare that we find out you should stay on the same one,” Tomlin said. “That is the exception rather than the rule.”
Medicare beneficiaries can evaluate plans by going online to Medicare.gov. More information can be found at that website or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE
