Marketplace assistance at Heartland

Often times people trying to access health care services encounter heartbreaking situations where the care they need is not affordable. Thanks to the Health Insurance Marketplace, there are now options that didn't exist just a few years ago.

Recently, a patient at Heartland Community Health Center was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Adding to the burden of this diagnosis, the patient and his family had recently faced some financial challenges and they were without health insurance.

After visiting with the family, Heartland’s Outreach and Enrollment Specialist was able to help them navigate through the Marketplace. With new laws about preexisting conditions and available tax credits to help pay for health insurance, the family is now covered for $52 a month with a low deductible. This has proven to be an affordable option for this family that grants them access to the health care they need.

Open enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace for 2016 runs through January 31. If you have questions or would like assistance filling out the online application, call Heartland at 785.841.7297. More information is also available here.
