Chronic disease management workshop to begin March 24

Americorps members from Heartland Community Health Center will host a free six-week workshop focused on equipping individuals who are managing chronic conditions. The group will meet at the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department from noon to 2:30pm on six consecutive Tuesdays beginning March 24. This workshop is ideally suited for individuals with conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, anxiety, and other chronic illnesses.

The workshop will offer participants a support group, practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, information about how diet, exercise, and new treatment choices can impact their condition, and ways to talk to their doctor and family about their health. Participants will also receive assistance setting goals and creating a step-by-step plan to improve their health.

For more information, or to register for the workshop, email aurich@heartlandhealth.org. The registration deadline is Thursday, March 19 and space is limited to sixteen participants. Any additional registrants will be placed on a waiting list.

This workshop is made possible by Heartland Community Health Center, the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, KDHE, and KOHP.
