Chronic condition support workshops beginning in October

Heartland Community Health Center and the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department are launching "Tools for Better Health" workshops in October. One will take place on Thursday evenings beginning October 15 from 6:00-8:30pm at Holcom Recreation Center (2700 W. 27th St). The other will meet on Wednesday mornings beginning October 14 from 9:30am-noon at the Lawrence Public Library (707 Vermont St).

Each class is seven weeks long and is designed for adults with chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, or depression. Information covered in the class will help participants find practical ways to deal with pain and fatigue, discover better nutrition and exercise choices, understand new treatment options, and learn better ways to talk with their doctor and family about their health.

Those who would like to attend, but need help with transportation, are encouraged to contact Heartland at 785.841.7297 for information on transportation vouchers.

To register for the workshop, or for more information, call 785.856.5340.
