Hey everyone! Today turned out to be a good day in the kitchen! We had a teacher, from a local junior high, volunteer with us all day today. He really helped us out! All together we had 2 volunteers helping with meal preparation, 7 volunteers help serve and 8 volunteers help with clean-up. Six of the volunteers were from Japan. They volunteered with us, along with their teacher, Melissa Stamer, from KU's Applied English Center. The students: Naoki Kuse, Satoshi Mochizuki, Saho Nakatsuji, Chigusa Kawase, Mika Koishi and Risa Murakami, all showed an interest in what we are doing for the community.
Wednesday Menu: BBQ Pork (Pork donated from Dillons), Yams, Mac-N-Cheese, Corn on the Cob (from Voight Farms), pastries from Starbucks, salad with dressings (dressings donated by a private person), Watermellon (from Voight Farms), fruit cocktail, and desserts (donated from Hy-Vee and Dillons).
We had a food donation from a school in town. Many thanks!
Dillons on 23rd Street donated several cases of toothpaste. Thank You Very Much!
We served 84 meals today. I believe everyone enjoyed their meal. We had two families in today that were surprised at what we had to offer them. We have a room for families and children to eat in. Coloring books, crayons, blank paper, magazines, puzzles and many other things are available for kids while they are here.
Thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered and went out of there way to bring us the things we so desperately need.
If you are wondering what else we need, I will include a list on Friday's update.
