What a beautiful day! There was a nice breeze and the hummidity was down. It was a little easier to keep the dinning room cool for everyone.
We had several volunteers today. Ken and I prepared the meal. We had 8 volunteers from KU's Applied English Center, along with their teacher. Mayu Yamaguchi, Masami Yanagawa, Arisa Toda, Megumi Iwashita, Yu Tsugimura, Wataru Sakaz, Yuri Tanaka and Aai Shibayama helped get the dinning room ready for the afternoon meal. Dwight, Ken, the students, the teacher and I cleaned the dinning room, sorted food, vacuumed, dusted and swept the floors. We could not have finished all of these tasks without the volunteers today.
We served 91 meals today. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner.
Friday's Meal: Terriyaki Chicken (chicken donated by Dillons), roasted terriyaki vegetables, corn-on-the-cob (donated by Voight Farms), rice, cucumber salad (local gardener donated cucumbers), salad with dressings, soy sauce, desserts (donated by Dillons and Hyvee), drinks and applesauce.
Warming & Cooling Program: Tonight we will have cereal with milk, chocolate milk, terriyaki chicken, applesauce, corn, desserts and drinks.
Donations in the Kitchen: We had one donation of school supplies. A pregnant woman brought in a variety of boxed dinners and beans. She couldn't use them as her power is out, so I gave her food that she could use that does not require a refrigerator, stove or freezer. She was very grateful and happy to know that she had something to eat this weekend. Thanks to everyone who made that possible by donating food to The Salvation Army.
Have a blessed day! Enjoy your weekend.
