Celebrate With Goodness

Forty two years means a lot to celebrate for Headquarters Counseling Center, here in Lawrence. The center will celebrate 42 years of caring on Friday, December 16. Headquarters is one of the oldest 24-hour counseling centers in the country, and the only one serving Kansas on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

In 42 years, Headquarters has reached around half a million people through safety programs, bereavement support, referrals to other helpful services, crisis counseling, and emotional support. In the words of someone who has benefited from that counseling, "I just want you to know that your helping hand means so, so much to me, and I know that it does to others as well."

So how does Headquarters celebrate a birthday in hard economic times? Instead of a hosting a reception, they invite people to do good in honor of the center.
