Caring listeners needed at Headquarters Counseling Center

"Thank you - I probably wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you." ~ caller on 12.5.12

Headquarters Counseling Center is looking for empathetic, caring, and nonjudgmental volunteers to answer our counseling and suicide prevention hotline calls. We will soon be starting the interview and screening process for our Spring training program, which this year includes ASIST training - a national evidence-based suicide prevention training program.

The first step in our training process is attending an Info Meeting and here are the choices:

  • Wednesday January 23rd 6-7:15pm at Fire Station #5, 19th/Iowa St (1911 Stewart Ave)
  • Monday January 28th 6-7:15pm at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vermont St

Our volunteer counselors will tell you that this is an amazing experience - with great learning about communication skills, about life challenges, and about helping people through hard times. Plus doing this with a set of wonderful people also means making some new friends. And this kind of volunteer experience is great professionally and personally.
