Our Fourth of July celebration was a bit different with our Growing Food, Growing Health crew. We started early with a workday out at our satellite garden on Wild Onion/MAD farm where we have our potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes.
By the end of the day, we had dug potatoes, weeded onions, planted sweet potatoes, and enjoyed a delicious communal meal featuring farm veggies and locally produced goods. Now that we are in full swing of summer, the times when our team is all together are few and far between, sharing a meal with almost all of our student gardeners was a treat. It was a really wonderful way to celebrate a holiday - hard, fun work and delicious, local food.
