We've had two very successful Markets at 6th and Wakarusa! Sold lots of produce to happy faces and chatted with lots of folks about our school garden projects. We are also really enjoying seeing our produce on display at The Merc. The Merc's Produce Department always handles our produce with such great care and respect that we are so excited when we hand over our freshly harvested beauties.
This week, we had a new harvest of kohlrabi to sell at The Merc and Market. At first glance, you might wonder if these are vegetables or actually an invasion from outer space! We talked to so many folks about the various uses for kohlrabi that it got me hungry to fix some for dinner. I went home and made a recipe from the Rolling Prairie Cookbook with Kohlrabi over Rotini Pasta. I trust Nancy’s recipes enough to know I was in for something good, but you’ll just have to trust me that even though they’re not an alien life form, this pasta dish is still out of this world. You can find the recipe on The Merc's website or stop into The Merc and get your own copy of the most useful cookbook around, Rolling Prairie Cookbook by our very own Nancy O’Connor.
I had to take a quick picture because my dinner was going fast! With kohlrabi and an onion from the West Garden, thyme and carrots from my garden, and a hard goat's milk cheese from Landeria Farm, this was a very special, local meal.
