Summer is really upon us, and we are so happy that all of the Gardens are looking fuller, bountiful, and greener. More bounty means more work, though, and sometimes the weeding gets behind. The weeds in our gardens give us nightmares and we are determined to get them in line. Since we are 100% dedicated to creating a safe space for students to visit and weeding without the use of any chemicals, we pull all of our weeds by hand. What’s our solution? More hands. To be specific, your hands! Introducing: Weeding Wednesdays!
Weeding Wednesdays is a weekly community workday where absolutely anyone is invited to work with us in our Gardens to help keep them as beautiful and productive as possible. We will be weeding from 8am-Noon every Wednesday, weather permitting. Stop by West and if we’re not there, look for the “Where Are We?” sign on the shed which will direct you to either the Sunset Hill or Hillcrest Garden, depending on which garden is in the most need. Please come by and stay for as long as you’d like, we would never deprive anyone of weeding, even if it’s only 5 minutes. Pulling weeds isn’t enticing enough? I guarantee you’ll get a laugh from Dan’s Weeding Wednesday theme song and get inspired by our Student Gardeners. No need to notify or sign up, just come by and we’ll put you to work. Spread the weeding word!

Sounds like a great activity for families looking for new and different things to do during the summer.

What a great outdoor activity for all ages — especially kiddos — this summer! Also, a fun way to meet new people and maybe learn a tip or two about growing food from the "Growing Food, Growing Health" crew. Happy weeding!
