Free tax assistance is available to residents ages 60 and older and those with low to moderate income at the Lawrence Senior Center through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program.
Volunteers are offering assistance through April 17 at the center, 745 Vt. Instead of providing services on a walk-in basis only, they are taking appointments. To make an appointment, call 856-0365 between noon and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The program is providing tax assistance from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
Last year, the program provided tax assistance for 1,450 people in Lawrence.
The program also is available in:
• Baldwin City — 9:15 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, starting Feb. 3, at the library, 800 Seventh St., 785-594-3411.
• Ottawa — 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, starting Feb. 2, at Ottawa City Hall, 101 S. Hickory St., 785-242-5560.
• Oskaloosa — noon-4 p.m. Fridays, starting Feb. 3, at the library, 315 Jefferson, 785-863-2637.

I wonder if this lobbying group will require you to sign supporting Obamacare before you get your tax help?

beware of the senior center tax assistance, and know something about your return before you go in. I went one year, and they figured out my state tax badly off the mark of what it should have been, by a couple hundred dollars.
