Community meeting set for Thursday to gauge Lawrence interest in starting village for elderly
- on July 18, 2012
There will be a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., to gauge interest in starting a village in Lawrence.
A village is a new approach to aging in place that involves neighbors working together. Villages are membership-driven, nonprofit organizations that are run by volunteers and paid staff. They coordinate access to affordable services and programs to help keep older adults in their homes.
Among the speakers will be:
• Lawrence resident Bonnie Uffman, who is spearheading the Eastside Village Lawrence.
If you are interested in learning more but can't attend the meeting, contact Uffman at firstname.lastname@example.org or 856-0057.
