Barbara Braa, a banking trust officer, will provide education on prevention of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation during a presentation at 3 p.m. July 31 at Medicalodges, 1415 Maple St., in Eudora.
Braa has worked with law enforcement in building financial abuse criminal cases and with attorneys, probate judges and SRS workers to intervene in financial abuse and exploitation situations. These collaborative efforts have resulted in reclaiming funds for elders and convictions and jail time for some offenders.
Her presentation is being provided through Lawrence-based Kansas Advocates for Better Care, which received a $6,000 grant from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.
The goal is to educate long-term care facility staff, residents and family members as well as law enforcement and banking staff. The goal is to teach how to identify abuse, where to report it and how to avoid it.
The presentation is free and open to the public. If you are interested in attending, contact Donna Fox, of Medicalodges, at 542-2176.
