I have to wonder if the people who voted no are "pro-life."

Why is this question ambiguous as to legal or illegal immigrants? If you don't give a dang about our laws, then you don't get free health care.

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

So let them die from lack of medical care right? Make sure their children starve too, right?

0

blogme 1 year ago

Wow, ksjayhawk74, you're a Christ scholar and a moron to boot! Let's see, what do you think you get when you give incentives for breaking our laws, more legal behavior or more illegal behavior? Christ stood for charity. But charity does NOT come from the government. He would have supported private charity from...Plug your ears ksjayhawk74 as I know this will hurt...religious organizations providing support for the "needy". But not forcible extortion of the law abiding citizens by the government to give incentives for illegal behavior. If he did mean for government to play Robin Hood, he would have been famous for directly starting political PACS to pull the levers of government to pay for illegals health services instead of being the worlds savior. BTW, I don't think Mary got free health care while she was carrying our savior. Since you know sooooo much about Jesus, I'm sure you can verify my facts. LOL!

So your short answer to kcjayhawk's question would be "yes, let them die and starve." Your slavish loyalty to your ideology requires.

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

A typical hateful response. I don't think Jesus would have been against a Government supporting the poor and sick.

So your Church, that you go to all the time and give a lot of money to on a regular basis provides free prenatal care to immigrant women?

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

Anyone who votes that illegal immigrants should not get medical care needs to really think about their values.

What would Jesus do? If you believe that Jesus would not want illegals to have medical care, you are terribly wrong.

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

You do know that not all illegal immigrants are from Mexico, right?

0

starburst 1 year ago

Wow! Hard to believe 60% of people are against support. If you are a Christian, I think you should ask the all-important question: What would Jesus do? I can't imagine he would want any mother or child to suffer based on their citizenship status. Do you think he would have asked for proof of citizenship before feeding and clothing the poor? Even from a selfish point of view, providing care now saves thousands of dollars later when problems arise. It just makes sense.

For all of those that said "what would Jesus do?" Christ also said follow the law. I said no because we are such a welfare state we are drowning in debt paying for all those that don't. If they want good laws work in their own community to make it better there. Detroit is doing it, and personally we have a system to allow people in but they choose the easy ILLEGAL route. Stop sympathizing for easily to determine lawbreakers. Once we say enough is enough we can focus on taking care of our own issues and not everyone else. If we starve our kids to feed other people's kids we have no future, we are failing and need to rebuild ourselves to help others further down the road.

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

"...we can focus on taking care of our own issues and not everyone else."

That is NOT what Jesus would say. Jesus didn't think in terms of "our own" and "everyone else".

"it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Please tell me how you can interpret that as meaning that foreigners should not receive medical attention so that "we" don't have to spend the money.

Are your children really starving? If so I would like to make a call to Child Protective Services out their behalf.

0

collective82 1 year ago

Christ did want us to survive did he not? If He had starve to death feeding everyone but Himself what good would He have done? We aren't as rich as we once were, and we're sliding furth and further into poverty. We have to stop a blood transfer if some ones draining the other right? It's possible for fair treatment of all but no point pulling more people into a sinking boat drowning every one else in the boat faster. Illegal is illegal, why should legal tax payers pay for those that don't respect it?

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

Again, you're using the term "us". Jesus did not think like that.

You do know that Jesus wasn't an American, right?

Also, you make it sound like providing health care to immigrants is the only thing that causes budget problems.

The actual amount of tax money that goes to these medical services is much less than you imagine. If you want to see real money get wasted, look into the Department of Defense budget.

0

collective82 1 year ago

Heh the DoD budget is so large due to waste and r&d. DARPA anyone? No way! Christ wasn't an American back in 0 A.D.?! Man did I ever learn wrong in some sort of insane asylum that would lead you to believe I think that.
Alao Christ did make it known he would provide for us as we followed him. Irregardless giving illegal (and I just noticed from a poster above the title doesn't say illegal, my fault.) immigrants nice cushy reasons to come here make them want to come here in droves and stay. Most get work where they don't pay into the system at all and that's what I have an issue with. Now if we switched over to a consumption tax system instead of a income tax I would have no issues with them coming here, but would till argue against free handouts.

Ok this has been bothering me since the article was released. I would like to state last year I was one of the ones sent to Leavenworth health department because our insurance didnt cover my pregnancy and we fell through the cracks for any other help. No we shouldn't be getting illegal immigrants free care in town when those of us who are not illegal and truly are in need can not get a break. I called every place in Lawrence and asked if paying cash with out insurance i could get a break on prenatal care and guess what?!! No or very little. So i had to go out of town. It just irks me that someone else who is not from this country can get free care but we cannot take care of our own.

Before you crazy people lay into us about having a child when we clearly could not afford to pay out of pocket, we were on birth control and used it like it should have been used. we already had two children one of which is special needs and we did not want any more children. apparently god had other plans for us.

As far as the medical card system is concerned its broken. we fell though the cracks because they only take income standards for the unborn, mother and father they dont consider the income of the parents as to support the other children in the house. To make it more broken my daughter was covered the min she was born but they would not cover my prenatal care to make sure they did not have an unhealthy child to take care of her entire life.

Defiantly broken they will not cover the prenatal care to make sure the child is born well but will cover the unhealthy child for life. Soo much cheaper right? ( note the sarcasm)

I seriously doubt that anyone who supports an undocumented human and their unborn would feel any differently about you and your circumstances. Take a moment and learn about the stories of immigrants, here in Lawrence, and you just might find some humanity within.

0

really_again 1 year ago

I totally agree Bigtoe! If they followed our rules and came here legally thats different.

raw_sunflower i have no compassion for anyone who is breaking so many laws and is totally aware of it. You want to have humanity for someone because they don't come from here but you find it hard to be compassionate about someone from here. hypocrite

I am stunned by the lack of kindness here, whether it be Christianity, the Jewish Faith, Muslim, whatever. Do these people think of anything but themselves?

My suspicion is also that most of them do not have kids. How could they have kids and have this attitude?

We need to get rid of "anonymous" on well commons and let people speak with their true names.

0

ksjayhawk74 1 year ago

The hateful consensus seems to be that while Jesus did like poor people, Jesus would be OK with not providing health care to people who are not from our Country, because Jesus was a Nationalist. Also, it's the role of the Church to provide such care.

So in their view, Jesus doesn't love and care for EVERYONE, just Americans who pay their taxes and don't break the law. Everyone else can just eat it.
