Governor: No state-federal health care partnership
Gov. Brownback is thinking he can avoid all accountability if he pushes the responsibility off on the Feds.
He missed the opportunity for Kansans to create their own system under this - one that is appropriate for the needs of Kansans.
For someone who is adamant that states know what's best for their people, he sure missed the boat on this one.

Lawrence parents upset to learn children didn't get school breakfast because of late bus
No, I don't constantly troll your comments because most aren't worth responding to but I will speak out when you bully others.
I am not misreading your point. You attempted to shame him by posting a comment about his financial situation and then implied he is a moocher. Telling him he has an "entitlement mentality" is telling him that he is a moocher.
You must have missed where he posted that he pays property taxes. I'm sure that you are aware of the mill levy in property taxes and that money goes to the school district. He also pays sales taxes as well. A portion of sales taxes goes to funding our schools. That means that he does pay for school services. He does that through those taxes.
Not only did you miss the entire point of the reason of this article (the children who were supposed to receive breakfast from the school did not because the bus was late & that this was not the only time it happened), but you tried to make it into a bash the low income guy thread with your lack of knowledge on how our schools are funded.
As of the other "non-taxpayers" claiming they pay for government services. They did. Perhaps you never bothered to read the actual study by the Tax Policy Center (they are the ones who determined the 47% don't pay Federal Income Tax) and it is obvious you didn't do the further reading they put out that explained how low income people pay taxes on a variety of things such as State Income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, gasoline taxes, etc. Government services are paid for by those taxes too. The government is not funded solely by income taxes and informed people understand that.

Lawrence parents upset to learn children didn't get school breakfast because of late bus
Still trying to shame this fellow because his income is low?
There was no need to go digging through his previous comments & post something that had nothing to do with the issue - the fact that the school was to provide breakfast for these kids and they did not because the bus was late.
However, with all that said... no amount of logic will change your mean-spirited, petty and belittling attitude. So, that is all I will say about it.

Lawrence parents upset to learn children didn't get school breakfast because of late bus
I am glad the issue is resolved and that you were part of the solution.
Ignore those who attempt to shame you for your income and try to imply you are not a responsible parent. They are mean-spirited petty people.

You have no need to apologize for making people aware that this is an issue.
It is best that you let the commenting on this article go. If you take a look at DIST's comment history, you'll see why it will be a waste of your time. He's gone to the trouble to "dig up dirt" on you. He'll probably blog about it and claim ownership of all comments on his blog and then something else shiny will distract him.

Lawrence parents upset to learn children didn't get school breakfast because of late bus
Your posting on this article is attention to self. You had to point out how you feel your an awesome parent. Again, yay you!
I bet you feel even more satisfied now that you've dug up personal info on this fellow in an attempt to shame him. Your attempt at doing so illustrates even more the disenfranchisement of low-income folks.
The article states "one-time" for this incident but I know for a fact that buses have been late more than "one-time" in a school year. This means that other children have missed breakfast (pre-paid or free).
It is good that this parent brought this to everyone's attention and even more so because people such as yourself are more than willing to sneer at a vulnerable population and declare it a non-problem.

Lawrence parents upset to learn children didn't get school breakfast because of late bus
You really don't know whether or not this is a "one-time" error and people need to be aware that the school bus can be late and their children may miss a meal that they prepaid for.
You've already pointed out how you feel you are a much better parent than this fellow in your 4:31pm post. Yay you!
This fellow may have wanted attention brought to this problem (and it is a problem) but that doesn't justify your negative attitude toward him.

So, when are the kids supposed to eat a snack? If they didn't get breakfast because the bus was late, they wouldn't have time to eat a snack either. You are not supposed to eat or drink on the school bus.

Parents frustrated with child care providers who won't administer life-saving insulin shots
Don't be scared. It is new to you but you will find it easy to maintain a routine and administering shots are a breeze. The needles are so tiny now that they do not hurt at all. The only "pain" would be the sting of not letting the spot dry from the alcohol swab. Just wait about 15 seconds after swabbing and you are good to go! :)
Contact LMH. They have a good diabetes education program that has all sorts of useful info. You can even consult with a nutritionist if you are concerned about preparing meals for him.

Parents frustrated with child care providers who won't administer life-saving insulin shots
Insulin and diabetes medications are not cheap and they are not all the same. While one type of insulin make work fine for one person, it may not for the next person. One person may be fine with oral medications, one may need insulin.
Add up alcohol swabs, needles (either for syringes or pens), carrying cases, glucometers, testing strips (glucometers and ketosticks), etc., and it is not cheap at all. Also include the more frequent blood tests (a1c, kidney function, etc) and it adds up quick.
Diabetes complications are, as with any complication from any disease or chronic condition, expensive but please don't make out maintenance to be a cheap thing.
