About Laura

I have lived in Lawrence for 20 years and consider myself a Kansan. My mother, grandparents, and great grandparents are from Kansas City gong back to 1870's when my great grandparents moved from Italy to KC. I grew up in a farming family in a small town in the Central Valley of California. I love to grow vegetables, herbs and cook the wide variety of american and italian foods from my family heritage. I have been married, for 30 years, to David Smith who teaches sociology at KU. I have 2 sons, Dan Smith and Robin Smith.

I have been a physical therapist for almost 30 years and love my work. I enjoy helping people resolve pain problems and regain their life through strengthening and exercise. There is nothing more empowering for people than learning how they can improve their health through a exercising a few hours a week. The body has amazing healing powers through exercise which increases blood flow to injured muscles, tendons and joints. I enjoy being able to teach others to make small changes in their fitness that make huge improvements in how they live and feel.

I started Lawrence Therapy Services in 2000 and added an office in Baldwin City in 2001.
I am privileged to work with a talented team of therapists who are committed to providing state of the art therapy to all ages at our clinics. Our staff of 20 people work hard to provide great service and care to each person who chooses to have therapy with us. I believe in giving consistent one-on-one care to our patients and insure that patients work with their chosen therapist throughout their care.

In my free time I love seeing family/friends, hiking, reading, knitting, cooking, traveling, writing, photography, and gardening.
