Ellie Garrett grew up at the Kansas City Farmer’s Market in her family’s stand. While attending KU, she was a regular at the Lawrence Farmer's Market. She has had the pleasure of working with the Boulder Farmer’s Market in Colorado and Pomona Farmer's Market in California. In 1999 she moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands, became associated with Slow Food International and studied culinary arts. She brought that work back to the US, first working with Locals Care and then with the Santa Fe Alliance Farm to Restaurant project, joining farmers markets, producers, chefs, local businesses, non-profits and schools, along with local and state governments to promote the development of sustainable food and local business systems. Ellie and her family moved back to Lawrence in 2008. She works with the Lawrence Farmer's Market and serves on the Douglas County Food Policy Council.
