About Jonathan
I've been helping build online communities in Lawrence, Kan., since I was an editor of The University Daily Kansan in 2006. In all that time, though, I've never taken part in a project as exciting as this one.
WellCommons is a mix of social networking and journalism; it combines the bedrock of the Internet with the bedrock of a community. We've been working on this for months and I'm so excited to play a small part in getting this out in front of you.
I know this site won't be perfect, but I think you're going to like what we have built so far. But that doesn't mean we're satisfied. Get in touch and let us know what you think we can do better.
Meanwhile, look around, try out the features of our Web site and, please, make it your own. We're so excited to have you here.

Jonathan Kealing commented on Is it time to bring back the martini lunch?September 1
Jonathan said: “I certainly don't want to pressure anyone into anything. But, just like we encourage everyone to have 6-11 servings of grains and 2-3 servings of fruit and 3-4 servings of vegetables, should we also encourage them to add a glass of wine to their daily intake. ” -

Jonathan said: “This is a really neat site. My wife and I were just this weekend discussing ways we could be more health conscious, so this is a good resource for us, particularly where they offer alternatives.” -

Jonathan said: “Speaking as a graduate of a high school that didn't have “agriculture classes” at all — and certainly had no members of FFA — it's amazing to me what all of our schools here in Lawrence are doing to show students how to grow their own food. I also think it's so neat that the food can then be served in the school cafeteria. I hope we see more efforts like this from schools across the country, including in suburban areas of major metros, like mine was.” -

Jonathan said: “This was a real challenge for Anne and I. We have dietary challenges already (she's a vegetarian and I'm allergic to legumes) and this added a third dimension for us. We too got the watermelon at the farmer's market, visited local restaurants and shopped at The Merc. All-in-all, we were pleased with the food we ate and the way it challenged us to think more broadly about our evening meals. We were pretty psyched to get our T-shirts.” -
Jonathan Kealing commented on 'Eat Local' challenges me to try new Lawrence restaurantAugust 16
Jonathan said: “My wife and I hit the Farmer's market this weekend, as well as dinner Saturday at Free State Brewery and lunch Sunday at Local Burger. So three stamps for each of us. Plus, we ate a delicious salad on Saturday with ingredients from the Farmer's market, and then incorporated local items in dinner on Sunday. We're not perfect, but we're having fun trying to eat more local and win our T-shirts!” -
Jonathan Kealing commented on Eat Local Challenge starts Saturday! I am ready, are you?August 13
Jonathan said: “My wife and I are signed up, though we're a little concerned that we'll be able to get 12 stamps between the two of us, without eating out all week.”
