About Susan
A graduate of Kansas State University, Susan Johnson is responsible for providing research-based information to the people in Douglas County, Kansas. As a passionate advocate for wellness and health promotion, Susan provides her expertise in nutrition, food preparation, fitness, health, workplace wellness, food safety, and food preservation, as well as leadership development and volunteer management through her work with K-State Research and Extension in Lawrence.
Susan has provided information and education to help residents live well for 33 years. The majority of Susan’s work centers around broader community issues to improve health and reduce risks related to overweight and obesity. She performs food demonstrations with lots of “hands-on” interaction for participants and/or civic organizations, multiple community agencies, food services, and other locations as needed. In addition, she administers the Family Nutrition Program to provide nutrition education to limited resource individuals and families.
Susan also trains and works with building community leaders through the Extension Master Food Volunteers, the Family and Community Education Council, and the 4-H Youth Development Program.
For leisure, Susan enjoys fine food and all things culinary, accessorizing her home, browsing the local markets, watching Big 12 sports, and attending performing art productions. Celebrating, relaxing, and sharing time with her son Michael and family and friends are her life’s rewards.
