Tis the season for blood. With Halloween looming, the recent Lawrence Zombie Walk, and all other manner of spooky activities around town, I’m taking a moment to ask for a little more blood.
The most common response to why people don’t donate blood is that they were never asked. So here I am. According to the American Red Cross, 60% of Americans are eligible to donate, but only 5% do. Monday, October 29, you have a chance to change that.
Free State Brewing Company and 23rd Street Brewery have teamed with the American Red Cross in the Battle of the Breweries Blood Drive. Now it’s not so much a battle as simply a way to entice regular donors as well as new ones by offering fun rewards. All donors on the 29th will receive a $5 drink voucher from the brewery of their choice and a t-shirt.
Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts, will serve as the donation site from 9:15am – 5pm. Please contact Matt at matt@brew23.com if interested to make an appointment.
Donation facts, courtesy of the American Red Cross:
-One pint of blood can save the lives of three people.
-Four million patients receive blood transfusions each year.
-You can donate blood every 56 days.
-Minimum age to donate is 17.
-Minimum weight requirement is 110 pounds.
Come out and support your favorite brewery and save lives at the same time!
