Help kick off KU’s 100th Homecoming by joining the Jayhawk Jog 5k Run/Walk on Sunday, October 21 at 9:30 a.m. in South Park, 11th and Massachusetts. The event is open to everyone. You will be doing something healthy for yourself as well as raising money for the United Way of Douglas County.
The race will headquarter in South Park and wind through East Lawrence. Each participant receives a t-shirt along with refreshments. Online registration has ended, but you may sign up race morning in the South Park gazebo starting at 8:30 a.m. Race day registration will be $20 for all participants.
If you aren’t looking to run or walk, the Community Outreach Committee with the United Way is looking for volunteers to monitor the route during the race. Duties would include stopping traffic when necessary and directing participants along the route. For additional details, inquire at lakenrapier@verizon.net. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
As an incentive to come out, Olympic gold medalist and KU student Diamond Dixon will be there to get the race started!

Giving money to the United Way is like throwing your money in a trash can. They fail to properly vet charities (see boy scouts) and take a substantial slice for their own parties. Time to give directly, use pay pal, and help with your time and talent.
